SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
Designed for an active family of five, a long, slender and simple shape in the landscape presents its southern approach facade to a meadow, screened from the road and its neighbors by trees and plantings. Here, instead of a traditional public front yard, is a large level field for sports, a requirement that was a key factor in the selection of the site. The rear yard contains a screened porch, terraces, and a pool. The house, narrow, porous and transparent, slides between these outdoor areas. An entry court is flanked by two garages and leads to a hall which parallels the pool and opens to the major south-facing rooms. It ends in a stair that concentrates the considerable skills of the builders on one singular piece. On the exterior, a zinc roof slips down over the upper facades, and extends past the end of the building to read as a cloak draped over the house, a sort of metal jacket. Cedar, metal, masonry and stucco planes combine with a complexity that contrasts with the simple gable form.
