SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:

Within the lifetime of older residents, Baltimore’s Johnston Square community declined from a densely populated working class area to a blighted crime-ridden collection of mostly vacant houses. The Lillian Jones Apartments located on Greenmount Avenue and bordering the historic Greenmount Cemetery offer welcome options for housing and community interaction. This project is 74 units of affordable housing including 24 special needs units in one, two, and three bedroom apartments around a landscaped courtyard. A community room and offices line the busy street front. Shortly after the grand opening, the building was fully leased. It is now surrounded by many promising renovation and neighborhood beautification projects.
