SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
The Stories, located in Rockville, Maryland, targets the active professional that seeks to integrate an urban lifestyle, complete with access to the DC Metro, shopping and dining; all balanced with the warmth and simplicity of a personalized living experience. Completed in March of 2016, this new multi-family building provides environmentally friendly features, lifestyle comforts and the latest in technology all set in a relaxing environment that strives for simplicity. The environmentally friendly features include high-energy efficient plumbing and electrical fixtures, high SEER rating mechanical units, Energy Star appliances, recycled content construction materials and no VOC paint and adhesives. Lifestyle comforts range from a full fitness and yoga studio to easily accessed shopping and dining in the adjacent Congressional Plaza, a built in dog park area as well as extra-curricular health and financial well-being classes that are regularly offered by the project’s concierge. Technology upgrades include full Wi-Fi access, Nest Learning thermostats and other Smart-home technology features. Unit features include tall ceilings, extended ceilings on the upper level with clerestory lighting, stainless steel appliances, granite counters, wood cabinets with roll out shelving, step-in showers with glass doors and built-in benches and modern accent lighting. However, one of the largest priorities in the design of the building was providing every unit with access to the exterior. Each unit features an exterior balcony amply sized for dining and relaxing. Additional building amenities include a full time ‘lifestyle ambassador’ who is responsible for those extra needs of each resident, whether coordinating theater tickets or arranging events within the building; an exterior patio lounge complete with comfortable seating and exterior cooking, enclosed and secure parking and additional resident storage closets located throughout the building. The design of the building is derived from the warmth of the existing community with stone and masonry prevalent at the pedestrian level while the upper levels of the building speak to the growing modern aesthetic of Rockville and the greater Washington, D.C. region. The upper levels blend soothing cool colors with warm wood tones. Many of the featured top level units have extended ceilings in the living room, providing additional daylighting opportunities. The stone follows the project into the common spaces at the ground level and combined with the wood-grain ceramic tile flooring, the public spaces create a calm and relaxing retreat. The lounge features a built-in coffee and tea station for residents. The Stories sits adjacent to the long-standing Congressional Plaza, which offers high end fashion and soft goods retailers, a featured fresh goods grocery store and dining comforts ranging from breakfast to white tablecloth dinners. The project is also central to larger community features including public parks, golfing and a Metro station serving the DC market.
