SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
Breaking Tivoly is a urban housing project on Tivoly, Baltimore. The neighborhood has faced several demolition projects that has diminished the value and quality of living experience in the neighborhood. Breaking Tivoly uses a mix of hybrid housing as well as contemporary architecture to create residential units that could potentially revive the energy and experience of living in the neighborhood.
STUDENT'S STATEMENT
Adopting “Breaking the Box” norm of Frank Llyod wright.
In order to house different types of housing units within the same site. the standard regulation units are broken into smaller units to fit the required types. In this case the site uses townhouses and condos. The regular seven number of units is split between five townhouse units and two condo units. Breaking the box also allows to create spaces within the site to facilitate other required areas such as spaces for public interaction, circulation and relaxation.
Further more the concept also breaks the norm of the typical townhouse units by creating a visually engaging, public friendly and interactive neighborhood.
Breaking the typical townhouse type provides the opportunity for growth of new settlements with different and diverse types of urban housing units.
