SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
The new headquarters supports operations keeping watch over the Pacific. Safeguarding the lives of a generation, the new facility harmonizes with the tropical environment through cognitive connections to the sunlight, sea, and trade winds of Hawaii.
The design respects its context and evokes an image as a place of gravity and technological sophistication. The complex steps down the scenic hillside and flanking wings spread to embrace a central courtyard reflecting the Hawaiian culture of community. Lower height frontispiece elements present an engaging presence consistent with the building’s place as a focal point on Ft. Shafter, sympathetic to smaller scale neighboring buildings.
