SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
New construction of a 62,000 gsf YMCA recreation facility to service the south end of Frederick County, Maryland. The facility included the development of new parking spaces, accommodations for outdoor recreation and summer day camp venues, infrastructure improvements including site access sidewalks, parkways, storm and waste water services. The interior had it's own program which included a wellness center, large gymnasium, indoor track, family spaces, exercise studios, lockers rooms and multi-purpose athletic fields along with an indoor natatorium. Natural light was used throughout the building to make a strong connection to the outside and to reduce energy consumption. The community staircase has feature lighting and skylights to enhance the double height of the grand lobby area. The exterior of the facility features design elements that include stacked stone, vertical panels, three tone Nichiha paneling and planks. The orientation of the glass curtain wall at the front of the building allows exercising members to have a view of the distant mountains providing a feel of the air outdoors. There is also an outdoor rooftop terrace which provides space for those who prefer to work out in the open air.
