SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
The New Westmorland High School embraces (WMLCPS) pedagogical initiative where next-generation learning spaces facilitate learner-centered, student-driven, real-world, and project-based learning. These environments promote WMLCPS Century Learning Revolution by focusing on the whole person and where students are empowered and inspired to embrace Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Citizenship, and Wellness. The school is designed to accommodate the requirements of a modern, comprehensive educational program, provides spaces and places necessary to foster the learned abilities, skills, and behaviors required of them as citizens of the world . It was the time to boldly reimagine the high-school experience, using the power of human-centered design, the latest adolescent neuroscience, and purpose learning to usher in a new era of education that prepares students for this century, not the last.
The vision of The New Westmorland High School is to “be a community of learners in which our public schools, families, public officials, businesses, community organizations, and other citizens work collaboratively to prepare all of our students to succeed academically and socially in a diverse, democratic, change-oriented, and global society.” Westmoreland High School was designed to support that vision and allow for flexibility in instruction and learning, while it celebrates and tells the story of its place.
