PROJECT SUMMARY
The Braystone is a 52,000 gsf multi-family mixed used building consisting of 31 condominiums with first floor retail and below grade parking, located in Alexandria, VA within the Historic Old Town District.
The site was already developed with two existing historic Federal-style structures at the intersection of King Street and S. Payne Street, originally constructed in the early 1800’s and surrounded by a parking lot. As part of the redevelopment, the existing structures were retained, renovated and integrated in the new structure.
The new 4 story building, formed around the two historic buildings, is recessed back on both King Street and S. Payne Street to provide open space terraces for the residents and to respect the historic buildings. A key feature is the decorative metal tracery on the King Street frontage that is inspired by history of “wheelwrights” that once occupied the location and the wrought iron metal work throughout the historic Old Town District.
